Realm of Imagination

the-chubby-nerd:

Hey guys! I recently learned how to EV train using hordes in Pokemon X and Y, and I have to say, it’s remarkably easier and faster than traditional EV training! I know that in Pokemon X and Y, there’s the new Super Training that let’s you max stats, but that can take up to an hour just max one stat, which is pretty lame. Using hordes to EV train will result in maxing out both stats in as little as ten minutes! All you gotta do is follow this guide.
LISTEN UP:
Step 1: Beat the Pokemon League
Beating the Pokemon League will give you access to the Battle Masion, which is required for the next step.
Step 2: Buy all the “Power” items from the Battle Masion shop
If you’re unfamiliar with those items, they look like this:

They give you bonus Stat EVs for each battle your Pokemon takes part in, but cuts Speed temporarily.
They are ESSENTIAL to EV training. They cost 16 BP a piece at the Battle Masion, which means 96 BP for a set. You can get that much BP in two complete run throughs of a Battle Masion Single Battle run, which lasts 20 battles each. A good hour of effort and you’ll be the proud owner of a complete set.
Step 3: Get the Pokemon you wish to EV train
Catch it, breed it, trade for it, whatever floats your boat.
Step 4: Contract the Pokerus to the Pokemon you wish to EV train
The Pokerus doubles EV gathered in any battle, so it speeds things up. It’s a bit easier to contract this time around, with all the Wonder Trading going on, there’s a good chance you have a Pokemon with the Pokerus already. If you don’t have it, you can look through tags and forums online, and barter a trade for one, plenty of people are willing to give you one if you explain what you need it for. After getting it, it’s as simple as traveling around for a bit with both the infected Pokemon and the Pokemon you want to train in your party until it passes on.
If you don’t want the Pokerus, or can’t get it, it’s not a huge loss. It’s just going to take twice as many battles to fully EV train a stat.
Step 5: Catch or train a Pokemon that learns Sweet Scent OR get a large stack of Honey
Sweet Scent and Honey both attract hordes of Pokemon when used in tall grass and caves. You can catch Combee to harvest Honey, or you can catch an Oddish on Route 6, which already knows Sweet Scent.
Step 6: Get a strong Pokemon that you don’t want to EV train that knows a multi-target move like Swift or Earthquake
This Pokemon should be at the front of your party and be strong enough to knock out hordes with one move, in one hit. I personally use an Alakazam with the move Swift.
Step 7: Turn on your EXP Share
THIS MUST BE ON AT ALL TIMES. Pokemon who receive EXP from a battle also receive EVs from the battle.
So, you have your EXP Share on, strong Pokemon at the front of your party, followed by the Pokemon you want to train holding the proper Power item from above, with your Oddish bringing up the rear, if you’re using it. What’s next?
Next, you need to fly to one of the following routes, depending on what you want to train:
IF TRAINING HP, FLY TO ROUTE 5. Defeat five hordes of Gulpin.IF TRAINING ATTACK, FLY TO ROUTE 14 Defeat five hordes of Bellsprout.IF TRAINING DEFENSE, FLY TO ROUTE 10 Defeat five hordes of Nosepass.IF TRAINING SPECIAL ATTACK, FLY TO FROST CAVERN Defeat five hordes of Vannilite.IF TRAINING SPECIAL DEFENSE, FLY TO ROUTE 7 Defeat five hordes of Hoppip.IF TRAINING SPEED, FLY TO ROUTE 8 Defeat five hordes of Wingull. -note that sweet scent does not work the same over water-
Once there, use Sweet Scent or Honey to attract a horde. Defeat it, and repeat. If you have the Pokerus and the power item attached, it will take five hordes to almost max out the stat. After five hordes, just use a single round of Super Training in the stat you’re working on to finish it out. Then repeat everything for the second stat you want to max out.
After doing both, any attempt to Super Train will result in a small message saying congratulations on having a fully trained Pokemon.
This method is worthless in rain, hail, or any other extreme weather, as hordes will not appear.
I hope this helps a bit, this method takes a few tries to grasp, but, once you have the routes memorized, you’ll be able to train anything quickly.

Disney vs. 7 early fairytales

The 1812 version of Snow White is even worse when you consider that the girl was only seven years old in the tale (plus her unconscious body ended up being carted around by the prince until one of his servants accidentally woke her up).  Also, in The Little Mermaid, the mermaid’s unable to speak because she had her tongue cut out >__<

But I’d love to see faithful adaptations of the original tales.  Especially Bluebeard.  We need a Bluebeard adaptation.

Actually, the original-original pre-Grimm Brothers’ stories that were passed around Europe via oral tradition are nowhere near as violent as the Grimm’s made them. Cinderella’s stepsisters were never ugly and kept their eyes, Snow White’s mother was not even a villain (instead a group of bandits were), and instead of spending the whole story napping Sleeping Beauty outwitted a dangerous bandit leader, wouldn’t let him sleep with her, and saved herself.

The original oral stories were radically changed by the Brothers Grimm to fit their personal and political beliefs. Most notably, they often added in female characters solely for the purpose of making them evil villains and took away most of the heroines’ agency and intelligence. Both brothers belonged to a small fanatical sect of Catholicism that vilified women because of the idea of Original Sin and Wilhelm in particular had a particularly deep hatred of women. The Grimms were actually pretty horrible people. Those cannibalistic queens and ugly stepsisters and the mass amount of violence against women didn’t exist until the Grimms wanted them to. Their ideas stuck so soundly though that we now assume they were in the original tales and that these terrible characters and ideas come out of some perceived barbaric Old World culture. But in truth they’re really the Grimms’ weird obsession with hating women showing through. The original oral folklore focused on the heroes’ and heroines’ good deeds and used them as ways to teach cultural norms and a society’s rules and encouraged girls to be quick-witted and street-savvy instead of passive princesses, and the Grimms promptly stripped that all away.

"Grimms Bad Girls and Bold Boys" by Ruth Bottingheimer is an excellent book on this
